Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards

Better known as ‘Eddie the Eagle’, Eddie is an iconic English ski jumper and TV personality.

Eddie’s represented Great Britain at the 1987 World Championships, ranking 55th in the world for ski jumping. His performance qualified him as the sole British applicant for the 1988 Winter Olympics. At this time, he was also the first British ski jumping record holder and became infamous for personifying the Olympic spirit and representing his country without any form of funding.

Eddie is best known for competing in the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. His moniker ‘Eddie the Eagle’ was gained not for his skill, but for his mascot-like personality during the games. His eponymous nickname also headed his biopic and rocketed him to superstardom when he was portrayed on film by Taron Egerton in 2016.

Life after ski jumping has been nothing short of eventful for Eddie. He has become a fully qualified ski instructor and went on to become the world’s number nine in amateur speed skiing. Eddie continues to take part in a variety of TV shows as well as speaking at events across the UK and overseas.
